Short Stories Types
Anecdote
Is a short and amusing but serious account, which may depict a real/fake incident or character. An anecdote is always presented as based in a real incident involving actual persons, whether famous or not, usually in an identifiable place. However, over time, modification in reuse may convert a particular anecdote to a fictional piece, one that is retold but is "too good to be true".
Fable
Fable is a literary genre: a succinct fictional story, in prose or verse, that features animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature that are anthropomorphized (given human qualities, such as verbal communication) and that illustrates or leads to an interpretation of amoral lesson (a "moral"), which may at the end be added explicitly as a pithy maxim.
Flash fiction
Is a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity. There is no widely accepted definition of the length of the category. Some self-described markets for flash fiction impose caps as low as three hundred words, while others consider stories as long as a thousand words to be flash fiction.
Flash prose
Is brief creative writing, generally on the order of between 500 and 1500 words. It's also an umbrella term that encompasses various short format works such as prose poetry, short essays and other works of creative fiction and nonfiction.
Irish short story
Has a distinctive place in the modern Irish literary tradition. Many of Ireland's best writers, both in English and Irish, have been practitioners of the genre. It has been argued that its origins lie in the ancient Gaelic tradition of story-telling, though it conforms to the conventions of the genre elsewhere.
Minisaga
A minisaga, mini saga or mini-saga is a short piece of writing containing exactly 50 words, plus a title of up to 15 signs. However, the title requirement is not always enforced and sometimes eliminated altogether. Minisagas are alternately known as microstories, ultra-shorts stories, or fifty-word stories.
Molbo Story
A Molbo story is a Danish folktale about the people of Mols, who live in eastern Jutland near the town of Ebeltoft. In these tales the Molboes are portrayed as a simple folk, who act foolishly while attempting to be wise.
Short story cycle
Is a collection of short stories in which the narratives are specifically composed and arranged with the goal of creating an enhanced or different experience when reading the group as a whole as opposed to its individual parts.
Parable
A parable is a succinct, didactic story, in prose or verse, which illustrates one or more instructive lessons or principles. It differs from a fable in that fables employ animals, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature as characters, whereas parables have human characters.
